BMW hybrids

The BMW 7 Series Active Hybrid has a lithium ion battery, a small motor, and a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine, altogether giving 20mpg. The relatively low mileage is due to the car's weight and luxury status....it's another gorgeous hybrid aimed at those who do not like the idea of squeezing into cramped hybrids.

However, unlike most other hybrids, the BMW does not have independent electric propulsion. Meaning that when the battery is charged, and the car is moving at slower speeds, the gasoline engine continues to be used! The electric motor is only used for giving an extra boost to the gasoline motor during acceleration.

THUMBS DOWN to this kind of a concept car! BMW better come up with a better hybrid than this....

  1. Do you really imagine that a company like BMW would spend oodles of money on building a car that no one will buy??

Obviously there's a market for this kind of car.
