The Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid is being road tested in France. Toyota has partnered with French utility company EDF, which has begun the process of creating hundreds of charging stations in Strasbourg, France in anticipation of the arrival of 100 next generation plug-in Prius later this year. The charging stations will have the capability to not only charge the batteries of the Prius, but will also allow for the exchange of information about the vehicle, provide charging status, and an invoice to the customer.

Meanwhile Tulsa World reports that the Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid can drive up to 40 miles on an electric battery charged within six hours from a common 120-volt outlet at home. Most hybrids use a gasoline engine and a special battery that recharges while the engine is running. But the plug-in hybrid actually uses three batteries. The hybrid's electric-power screen can suddenly become a rear-view camera when the car is put in reverse gear.
