Hybrid pickup

The Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid pickup has been named the most fuel-efficient truck on the market by GM. The truck is powered by a 6 liter V8 gasoline engine with Active Fuel Management (AFM) and late intake valve closing (LIVC) technology. The powerful engine, with 4-Speed automatic transmission, has a towing capacity of 6,100 pounds and gives a fuel economy of 22 mpg on the highway.

At speeds up to 30 mph the electric system takes over: the Electrically Variable Transmission (EVT) and 300-volt nickel-metal hydride Energy Storage System (ESS). When the brakes are applied, the electric motors create electricity from its 300-volt battery. This stored energy is used to move the vehicle until the braking cycle is renewed. The hybrid pickup two-wheel drive version sells for $39,015.
