Audi Q5 hybrid avatar

German carmaker Audi have announced a hybrid avatar for their popular crossover mid-sized SUV, the Audi Q5. Employing nickel metal hydride batteries, and a 2.0 liter turbocharged 4 cylinder gas engine, the Audi Q5 hybrid will go on sale in the United States in 2011. The company firmly believes that clean diesel engines are more cost effective and efficient than hybrids and that is why its Audi Q5 has a diesel engine. It is bringing out a hybrid avatar to garner a share of that eco-friendly market.

The Audi Q5 has a 3.2-liter 270hp engine, with six-speed automatic transmission and manual-shift mode, giving a fuel economy of 18 miles per gallon in the city, and 23 mpg on the highway. It also has the Quattor, which is Audi's proprietary all-wheel drive system. The Audi Q5's hi-tech MMI navigation system uses Sirius satellite navigation, while Drive Select enables drivers to change the handling of the car from normal to dynamic.
