Sophia Bush loves clean diesel

Pretty actress Sophia Bush, from The CW's long running TV show One Tree Hill, photographed in LA about to get into her Audi A3 TDI, which runs on clean diesel technology. It was voted Green Car of the Year for 2010. Proponents of clean diesel technology say that clean diesel engines are 20 to 40 percent more fuel efficient than comparable gasoline engines. Allen Schaeffer, the Executive Director of the Diesel Technology Forum says that with the introduction of new ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel (ULSD), sulfur emissions have dropped sharply by 97 percent. TD stands for 'turbo diesel' and the Audi A3 clean diesel, which is pretty light, generates 140 horsepower with a top speed of 130mph. According to the EPA the clean diesel engine gives the Audi A3 TDI a fuel economy of 30mpg in the city and 42mpg on the highway.

This is not Sophia's first eco-friendly car. The actress has had nine seasons of One Tree Hill; the show that she loves finally ends on April 4. Sophia has directed the penultimate episode airing tonight. The show actually ended filming back in November at which point Sophia Bush turned emotional telling the Hollywood Reporter: "For weeks everyone stopped calling me Sophia and just started calling me waterworks everywhere I went." She always had a green passion, ever since filming the 2006 movie John Tucker Must Die, when she got her first hybrid. Sophia Bush also owns a classic car, a 1965 fastback Shelby Mustang—red with a white racing stripe. In a 2007 interview with Culture.com Bush said: "That's the car that stays in the garage, polished all the time. It only comes out once in a while, though. I drive my hybrid everyday! The gas guzzler muscle car only gets to come out on special occasions." She was seen with a Lexus SUV hybrid in those days.

Her first clean diesel technology car was the Volkswagen Jetta, which she got in 2009, and which was voted Green Car of the Year for 2009. Then in 2010, after the BP oil spill, Sophia Bush told Miami Living about her new green car: "I ordered Audi's A3 [TDI clean diesel vehicle]. It's a little station wagon that I was driving when I was in Europe....The car is bad ass. It's fast, it handles and gets close to as many miles to the galloon as a Prius does, but has zero emissions and doesn't have an oversize battery...." On Twitter, Sophia Bush writes of her love for the clean diesel Audi and how it saves money: "This is my Audi CLEAN DIESEL batmobile. Badass. I am obsessed with it. And I only fill up the gas tank once a week!" and how it helps save the environment: "My clean diesel is zero emissions, and gets 55 mi/gallon! Better than a Prius even, and no harmful smog!"
